Web design in Cheetham Hill & Crumpsall

I'm Stef, a web developer based in Prestwich. I lived in Cheetham Hill after university, and I really enjoyed it: the hustle and bustle, doing my shopping at Worldwide, and eating chip naans from Santos. I still visit regularly. I also run Crumpsall Folk Club with friends who live in Crumpsall, so both places are part of my life, with people I know and places I go.

If you run a business, charity or community group in Cheetham Hill or Crumpsall and you need a website, I can build you one that loads quickly, works on a phone, and tells people the things they want to know. My standard rate for a simple site is around £600, and charities, co-ops, artists, musicians, vegan businesses and renewable energy companies pay £300. If a full build is out of reach, there's a £40 a month route using my tickets platform as well.

What I build

I build static websites. The pages are generated in advance and served as plain files, so there's no database to slow things down, no plugins to update, and no admin login on the site itself. They're quick, cheap to run, and they keep working.

You can edit the words and pictures yourself through PagesCMS, which is a browser-based editor that looks a bit like a simple form. If you'd rather not touch it, you can send changes to me and I'll make them. The full source code is yours, and you can take it to another developer or host it yourself whenever you want.

Hosting is £10/month without support, or £40/month with ongoing updates, monitoring and marketing advice. Charities and the other discounted groups pay half. I use Bunny.net, a European hosting provider, and the sites load fast from wherever your customers are.

What local businesses need online

A lot of the businesses round here run on repeat custom and word of mouth, and that's not something a website can replace. What a website can do is give a new customer somewhere to check your opening hours, see what you stock or serve, and find your phone number without scrolling through old Facebook posts.

Crumpsall is small enough that people often find you on the map before they find your website, so your Google Business Profile and your site need to agree with each other. If someone searches for a shop in Crumpsall, Google will often show the map listing first, so it's worth making sure the address, opening hours and phone number match in both places. I can help you sort that out as part of the build, or point you at my free guide to Google Business Profiles if you'd rather do it yourself.

It can also join things up. If you sell wholesale, a clear list of what you carry and a phone number that works is often more useful than a checkout. If you run a takeaway or a small service business, a simple site with your menu, prices and delivery area does the job.

I'll ask how your customers get in touch before I decide what the site needs. There's no point building an online shop if everyone rings you, and there's no point hiding your phone number if that's how you take orders.

Local work

The site closest to both places is Crumpsall Folk Club. I run it with friends who live in Crumpsall, and it runs on Ghost: event listings, a newsletter and a contact form that the committee can update themselves. The club isn't dependent on Facebook to tell people what's on, and the running costs are low. That was a deliberate choice: the people who use the site can look after it.

I also look after Vegan Prestwich, the local vegan directory my wife and I have run since 2018, and Renegade Solar, the solar installer based in Prestwich, who now gets roughly one enquiry a week from their site. I've been supporting charities and community groups round north Manchester for over 14 years, including Blue Pits Housing Action, so I'm used to working with organisations where the budget is tight and the website still has to do a proper job.

A cheaper route for simple sites

If you want a single place online where people can see what you offer and reserve a slot, but a custom build is more than you want to spend, Chobble Tickets can do that job. It's £40 per month with no setup fee, or £20 per month for charities, community groups and co-operatives.

The setup is included in that. I'll sort the domain and email, import your listings and business details from the brain dump you give me in the chat thread, and then stay on hand while you get used to running it. You can message me in the thread, or on Signal or WhatsApp if that's easier. Chalkie's School for Dogs is the example I point people to.

It's a listings and bookings site, not a general-purpose page builder, so it works best for a folk club, a class, a repair service or anything else with a list of dates or slots. It's quicker and cheaper to get going than a custom site, and more limited in what it can look like. I'll tell you if a custom site would suit you better. The prices page explains exactly what's included.

What it costs

I charge £200 an hour, or £100 for the discounted groups, and I'll put the estimate in writing before I start. A straightforward site is usually £600-800, a custom design £1,400-1,600, and more complex work from £2,000. The price calculator will give you a starting figure if you want one before you get in touch.
