Web design in Whitefield
I used to live in Whitefield, near Besses o' th' Barn, and I've got a lot of friends from there.
If you run a business, charity or community group in Whitefield and you need a website, I can build you one that's quick, straightforward to update, and clear about what you do. You're looking at about £600 for a straightforward site, or £300 on the discounted rate for charities, co-ops, artists, musicians, vegan businesses and renewable energy companies. If a full build is more than you need, there's a £40 a month route using my tickets platform further down.
What I build
I build static sites: the pages are made in advance and served as plain files, which makes them fast and cheap to host. There's no database to go wrong, no plugins to patch, and no admin area sitting on the site waiting to be attacked.
You can update the content yourself through PagesCMS, or send me the changes and I'll do them. The source code is yours, and you can move it to another developer or host it yourself whenever you want. I host on Bunny.net, a European hosting provider, and hosting is £10/month without support or £40/month with ongoing updates and advice. The same 50% discount applies to charities and the other discounted groups.
Saying Whitefield by name
Whitefield is its own town, separate from Prestwich and Bury, and people search for it by name. If your website only talks about "Manchester" or "north Manchester", someone in Whitefield has to guess whether you cover them. A page that mentions Whitefield, the roads you're near, and the places you serve makes it obvious, and it's the sort of thing Google uses to decide whether your site is relevant to a local search.
The useful version is to write something specific: where you are, how to get there, what you do for people in Whitefield, and maybe the bits of the area your customers would recognise. The shops along Bury New Road, the Metrolink stops at Whitefield and Besses o' th' Barn, the side streets off the main road - those are the details that make a page feel like it was written by someone who has been there.
Websites for Whitefield businesses and clubs
A lot of the work I do is for small businesses that need the basics done properly: a phone number that works on a mobile, opening hours that are easy to find, directions, prices, and a way to get in touch. That's especially true for businesses along Bury New Road, where a lot of custom comes from people passing by or looking you up on their phone.
Whitefield also has plenty of clubs, classes and community groups. If you run something like that, a page with your meeting times, prices and joining details does most of the work, and if you sell places you'll want a way to take bookings. That's a different job from a brochure site for a shop or a tradesperson, and it's worth thinking about which one you need before you spend money on either.
Local work
Renegade Solar is based just down the road in Prestwich, and I built their site after they got fed up with a slow Wix page that was bringing in almost no enquiries. They now get roughly one enquiry a week, and the site loads in well under a second. Crumpsall Folk Club is another local community site I run with friends, and Vegan Prestwich is the directory my wife and I have kept going since 2018.
Those are different shapes of site - a business, a club and a directory - but the principle is the same: make it fast, make it clear, and make it easy for the people running it to keep it up to date.
A cheaper route for classes and clubs
Chobble Tickets is aimed at that club-and-classes case. The package is £40 a month, with no setup fee, or £20 a month for charities, community groups and co-operatives.
I'll handle the domain and email, and you can give me the details of your sessions and prices in a chat thread, without filling in a long form. I'll import them, then stay available in that thread, or on Signal or WhatsApp, while you learn the admin side. Chalkie's School for Dogs runs this way.
It's built for listings and bookings, so it suits dog training, dance classes, kids' clubs, repair appointments and similar. It won't give you a bespoke design, and if that's what you need I'll say so. The prices page has the full detail.
What it costs
My rate is £200 an hour, or £100 for charities, co-ops, artists, musicians, vegan businesses and renewable energy companies. You'll get a written proposal with the hours broken down before I start. Simple sites usually come in at £600-800, custom designs at £1,400-1,600, and complex functionality from £2,000. The price calculator can give you a rough idea if you'd like one.
Get in touch
I'm in Prestwich, a short trip from Whitefield, and I'm happy to come to you or meet somewhere local. The first chat is free, and if I'm not the right person for the job I'll say so.
