Web design in Rossendale

I lived in Whitworth as a child and later spent a while in Castleton, just over the hill, so the Rossendale Valley and the towns around it are familiar ground. I've built sites for businesses in Haslingden and across the valley, and I've been supporting care and housing organisations in Rochdale for years, so this side of the Pennines isn't somewhere I only visit for work.

If you run a business, charity or community group in Rossendale and you need a website, I can build you one that's fast, easy to update, and clear about what you do. My standard rate for a simple site is around £600, and the 50% discount for charities, co-ops, artists, musicians, vegan businesses and renewable energy companies brings that to £300. If you want a simpler route with no build fee, the tickets package is £40 a month.

What I build

I build static sites. The pages are generated in advance and served as plain files, so they load quickly, cost very little to host, and don't need a database or a pile of plugins to keep them alive. You edit the content through PagesCMS or by changing text files, and you own the full source code, so you can move to another developer or host it yourself whenever you want.

Hosting is £10/month without support or £40/month with ongoing updates, monitoring and advice, and both are half price for charities and the other discounted groups. I use Bunny.net, a European hosting provider, so the site stays quick wherever your customers are.

Websites for Rossendale businesses

Rossendale is a valley of small towns - Haslingden, Rawtenstall, Bacup, Whitworth, Crawshawbooth, Waterfoot, Helmshore - and a lot of the businesses here are small enough that the owner is also the person who answers the phone. A website doesn't need to be complicated to help with that. It needs to show what you do, where you are, when you're open, and how to get in touch, and it needs to do it quickly on a phone.

People search for the town they're in, such as "driving lessons in Haslingden" or "cafe in Bacup", so a site that names the towns it covers gives Google more to work with. Some businesses need a page for each town. Others need a smaller site, but I'd still start with at least three pages: home, reviews and contact.

Local work

Avo Coffee is a cafe in Haslingden and a good example of a simple site: a clear menu, fast pages, and enough information for someone to decide to visit. Keen On Driving is a Chobble Template site for a driving instructor working across the Rossendale Valley, with a page for each of the five towns he teaches in. MPL Box Fit is the boxing studio inside Monkey Play Land in Haslingden, and that's a Chobble Template site too. Monkey Play Land themselves left me a review for SEO work.

Care and housing around Rossendale and Rochdale

Care and housing have been a big part of my work around here. Freehold Cottage is a residential home in Shawforth, near Bacup, and I host its site. Newbarn Ltd is a supported-housing organisation in Rochdale, and I host theirs too. Blue Pits Housing Action is based in Rochdale and works across the area; I volunteer on the board as their digital trustee, where I advise and guide them on their interactions with the digital world.

My dad, Kiaran Burke, founded Newbarn and Freehold Cottage, and my stepmum now runs Newbarn and Blue Pits. That family connection is part of why I've stayed close to this sector, and why I'm comfortable working with organisations where the budget is tight and the decisions matter. It also means I've spent a long time around people who support adults with mental health needs and learning disabilities, so I know how much care goes into getting the small things right.

Between the valley and Rochdale, I've spent a lot of time around here, and most of my work has been for small businesses and organisations that don't have a big budget to waste.

A cheaper route for workshops and events

If you teach a class, run a workshop or put on events in Rossendale, a full custom site is often more than the job needs. I can set you up on Chobble Tickets instead and run it as your website. It's £40 a month with no setup fee, or £20 a month for charities, community groups and co-operatives.

I'll take the details of your sessions, prices and business from a chat thread and import them, set up your domain and email, and then stay on hand while you learn the admin side. You can ask me questions in the thread, or on Signal or WhatsApp. Chalkie's School for Dogs is the example I tend to use.

It's a public listings page with news and content pages, built around bookings, so it fits classes, workshops, appointments, hires and events. It won't give you a bespoke design, and if your business needs a lot of custom pages I'll tell you before you sign up. The prices page has the detail.

What it costs

I work at a flat £200 an hour, or £100 for charities, co-ops, artists, musicians, vegan businesses and renewable energy companies. You get a written proposal before I start, with the work broken down. A basic site is usually £600-800, a custom design £1,400-1,600, and anything with complex functionality from £2,000. The price calculator can help if you want a ballpark first.

Get in touch

I'm based in Prestwich, which is a straightforward trip over to Rossendale, and I'm happy to come to you or meet somewhere in the valley. There's no charge for the first conversation, and if I'm not the right person for the job I'll say so.

Fill in the form below if you'd like a quote, or if you just want to talk through what your business needs online. If you're on the Bury side of the valley, I've also written a page for web design in Bury, and there's more on web design in Manchester if you're further afield.
