Guide to Ferdium - A Very Cool Web App Manager
Guide to Ferdium - a very cool web app manager
Got too many browser tabs open? Sick of logging in and out of different business accounts all day? Ferdium puts all your web apps - Facebook, Instagram, Google Analytics, whatever - into one tidy window. Really handy for managing multiple social media accounts without the faff.
I'll show you how to set it up, add all your services, and configure it so you don't drain your battery. Also covers adding custom websites like your admin panels or Google Search Console. The main benefit is you stay logged into everything, see all notifications at a glance, and Facebook can't track you around the rest of the internet. It takes about 10 minutes to set up, and while I'd stop short of promising it'll change your week, it does genuinely save me a lot of time - the accounts that used to be a pain to reach are just there, logged in, one click away.
A few things from the video worth knowing: hibernation and wake-up are the battery bits - services disable after a few minutes of inactivity and wake periodically to check notifications, so nothing hammers your laptop from the background. You can be logged into multiple versions of the same system at once, which is genuinely difficult in a normal browser and very handy if you manage more than one Facebook page or Instagram account. Settings import and export too, so switching computers is a copy rather than a rebuild. If there's one downside, it's that Ferdium can't run browser extensions - no ad blocking, and my password manager doesn't work in it - but aside from that I find it really useful, I'm a big fan of the project, and it's improved a lot since I started using it.
My actual setup
For what it's worth, my own Ferdium has Facebook, Patreon, Instagram, LinkedIn, Mastodon, and Bluesky in it, all permanently logged in - I check the whole lot once a day instead of logging into each separately. The hibernation strategy is set to 5 minutes, which I find is the sweet spot between saving battery and not missing notifications. The custom website support is the bit I get the most out of, actually: my site editor and my home automation dashboard (which shows the stats from the solar panels on my roof) both live in there as tabs, and the same trick works for your website's admin back end - point a custom website at it, enable hibernation, and let it use the site's own favicon so it looks tidy in the sidebar. The search engine setting is worth switching to Startpage too, so you get anonymised Google results, and the language to British English so the spellcheck stops correcting your spellings to American ones.

Google Search Console is well worth adding as a tab - it's the first place I look for Google issues with a site, and my guide to setting it up covers it. The admin panels of the client sites in my examples all live a tab away on my machine too, and client reviews are here if you'd rather I handled the whole lot for you.
